One of West Lauderdale High School’s new assistant principals, Mr. Joshua Herrington has already made a big impression. From his morning greetings to his passion for student leadership, Mr. Herrington is bringing fresh energy and heart to the school halls.
Mr. Herrington began his career as a history teacher and soccer coach at Meridian High School. During his time there, he realized he had a desire to one day become a principal. After shadowing Meridian’s head principal, he served as assistant principal for three years. Altogether, Herrington spent eight years at Meridian High; afterwards, he spent five years at Northeast.
A graduate of West Lauderdale himself, Mr. Herrington always felt that he would return. He and his wife have always lived around the Collinsville Martin area and have been part of the community for years. Now that he’s back, his goal is to serve the teachers, students, and principal in every way he can.
Mr. Herrington shared his thoughts on handling discipline by saying,
“Even if it’s your discipline problems, and that can be what a principal has to do, I actually love dealing with that. It’s an opportunity to talk to kids and whatever that is, whether it’s being tardy, which I’ve dealt with a lot today, or something else, just speaking to them about the bigger picture. It’s not just about being late to school. It’s about forming good habits that go beyond this. I think my primary job is just to be a support person.”
Mr. Herrington felt that God had called him into administration. He believes that everywhere he’s been and everything he has done is all for the glory of God. Mr. Herrington uses his faith to shine the light of Jesus to others.
Mr. Herrington sends some encouraging words by stating:
“We are the knights, we are united. We have a tradition of excellence, and there’s not a problem that we can’t face. We’re gonna be great because that’s what we do.”
Mr. Herrington has already been a bright light at West Lauderdale, from his hallway smiles to conversations that encourage students to do better each day. He feels called to be here and to serve however he can. If you see him around the hallways, make sure to thank him for everything he does.
