West Lauderdale senior Abigail “Abbie” Cruise is a familiar face across campus, known for her involvement in several organizations including the Faithful Five for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the National Honor Society, HOSA, and cross country.
As a team huddle coordinator for the Faithful Five, Cruise helps organize devotionals and coordinate Fellowship of Christian Athletes activities.
“We’re kind of the backbone of FCA,” she said. “We’re not there to be on a pedestal but to make sure everything runs smoothly.”
Cruise also serves as secretary of the National Honor Society, where she records meetings, assists in planning events, and leads the community service committee. She highlighted projects such as the Storyline Outreach Project and Turkey Feathers fundraiser.
“I love community service and being involved in projects that make a difference,” she said.
Beyond her leadership roles, Cruise recently completed her final cross country season, marking six years with the team. She’s also an active member of HOSA, participating in competitions and service projects. In addition to her extracurricular commitments, she is pursuing a distinguished diploma while taking dual-credit and honors courses.
“Education is something no one can take away from you,” Cruise said, reflecting on one of the most important lessons she has learned.
Balancing so many responsibilities hasn’t always been easy, but Cruise credits her older sister as a role model and her strong work ethic for keeping her grounded. She emphasizes the importance of hard work, even when life gets stressful, and says she continues to see the beauty and impact in everything she does.
As she prepares for life beyond high school, Cruise hopes to carry her passion for service and leadership into everything she does.
“I hope people remember me as someone kind and hardworking, a leader who listened and valued others.”
