On a chilly, dust-filled morning in Central Mississippi, the West Lauderdale Knights lined up with one goal in mind—to make history.
On October 23, 2025, the Knights dominated at the MHSAA Central Mississippi Super Regionals, with the boys’ team taking home the championship title and the girls’ team earning an impressive runner-up finish.
Leading the charge for the Knights was Hunter Walton, who claimed the Super Regionals individual title with an outstanding time of 17:04. Aaron Walls wasn’t far behind, finishing second at 17:53, followed by the rest of the top 7: Ryan Thompson placing in third (18:03), Brody Gressett in fourth (18:14), Stone Berg in seventh (18:37), and Eli Robinson in ninth (18:44).
According to Aaron Walls, the team’s success comes from a focus on improvement rather than recognition.
“I would say it’s more about improving yourself, getting better and better each day,” Walls said. Walls adds:
“It isn’t about glory; it’s about striving to be better.”

The girls’ team followed up with a strong second-place finish, putting together one of their best performances of the season. Jordan Shields led the way, taking third place with a time of 20:46, while Maggie Graham finished sixth (22:26) and Nora Peterson placed eighth (22:45). Rounding out the Knights’ top seven were Alli Walton (ninth, 22:49), Ruby Fairchild (tenth, 22:56), Abbie Cruse (eleventh, 23:18), and Lydia Stewart (fourteenth, 23:55).
For Jordan Shields, the experience was about more than just medals. She highlights her experience saying:
“Being part of a team helped me realize that in a race, it’s not about winning—it’s about the friends along the way,” Shields said.
With Super Regionals behind them, the Knights now set their sights on the MHSAA State Championship, carrying momentum, confidence, and a sense of purpose into the season’s final test.
