Cooper Luke is a senior at West Lauderdale High School and has also been a vital part of the football program throughout his varsity years. Luke plays multiple positions on the field including defensive back, wide receiver, kicker, and punter. His favorite position is linebacker because of the action that comes with every play.
On the defensive side of the ball, Luke had 72 tackles during his senior season. During his varsity career, he scored 20 touchdowns and completed a total of 118 PATs (point after touchdown). Luke had 263 rushing and 1,252 receiving yards during his career.
Luke enjoys playing football “because of the high intensity and huge moments” and also because he is an “extremely competitive person.”
He says his teammates inspire him to grow and be better because he does not want to “let them down when they need [him].”
Luke says he is a very superstitious person, and he has a specific pregame ritual. He “[wears] the same clothes, [eats] the same food, and [listens] to the same music before every game.”
Luke’s greatest accomplishments on the football field include winning not one but two district championships with his team and beating Amory in the 2nd round of playoffs this past season. His best memories from his football career come from the moments in the locker room on game days.
After high school, Luke plans to continue his career by “[walking] on to play football for a four-year program.”
