The West Lauderdale Academic Team had an eventful day this past Saturday, November 15, when they attended the Danielle Adams Memorial V at Itawamba Agricultural High School. The competition was roughly two and a half hours away, and they had to be there by 8:00A.M.
After arriving and checking in, the rounds began. The competition was planned to have 11 rounds, but ended up being shortened to 9 instead. Each round was about 30 minutes long. There was an hour-long lunch break halfway through the day for students to reset.
Our A team (Preston Wilson, Joel West, Gibson Hasselle, Michael Lewis, Cooper Sellers, and Edi Smith) won 3 out of 9 rounds, with scores of 345-65, 265-85, and 260-20.
Senior Preston Wilson adds:

Our B team (Sawyer Ballard, Edwyn Miles, Mark Chen, Noelle Carey, and Aaron Walls) won 2 out of 8 rounds, with scores of 240-40, and 175-10.
At the end of the competition, a brief awards ceremony took place. There were awards for 9th-10th graders with the most potential, top scorers and top schools. Joel West, from our school’s own A team, won 6th place out of 57 students total.
