West Lauderdale’s winter guard season is officially underway, and this year’s team is already buzzing with excitement. After hosting two technique days on Monday and Wednesday the team has jumped into training, conditioning, and refining all of the fundamentals that will be used throughout the 2026 season. These technique days were critical to introduce or review simple fundamentals to new and returning members.
During these tech days the performers went over things like, walking on beat, jazz walks, drop spins, and angles. Returning members used these days to refresh their minds after the fall, meanwhile new members were able to get a glance into all that goes into West Lauderdale’s Mysterium. The mix of experience levels in the guard made the practice feel balanced and supportive to everyone involved.
One of the biggest changes Mysterium is making this year is the addition of members from different schools in the county. Currently West Lauderdale has had the interest of at least three students at Northeast Lauderdale. Eva Farmer, one of the new additions to Mysterium from Northeast says,
“I like how I immediately felt welcome and how everyone jumped in to help anyone if they needed it.”
As the season progresses the team will learn their choreography, tosses, and build their show that will get put on the floor in January. Rehearsals will be tough and long but the team is ready to put their best foot forward. With such a strong start the team is confident and ready for the season to begin.
