West Lauderdale’s National Honor Society students continued the annual Halloween fundraiser that benefits the American Cancer Society. Students throughout the campus get to dress up by donating a dollar to the organization. West Lauderdale has been working with the American Cancer Society for many years to raise this money. This year the National Honor Society raised 229 dollars during this fundraiser.
The American Cancer Society is a nationwide, non-profit organization that works to eliminate cancer as a major health problem. It was founded in 1913 and has become one of the leading cancer-fighting organizations in the world. This organization was formed to fund and conduct research to better understand, prevent, and treat cancer. Their mission is to save lives, celebrate lives, and lead the fight for a world without cancer. Our school has been working to help fund the worthy cause.
Liza Kate Orrell, a National Honor Society member, stated, “I think it’s a great way to advocate and support cancer patients, as someone who has had multiple family members that have suffered from cancer.”
Another member, Kallie Bearden, commented, “I think it is a good cause that will help cancer patients to get through a difficult circumstance.” These students expressed their opinions to show the true reason behind the fundraiser.
Doing something as simple as donating a dollar to wear a costume is contributing to the greater cause. West Lauderdale students are actively making this difference. While the costumes may be packed away, the impact remains.
