Taylor Swift released her seventh studio album, Lover, on August 23, 2019. The album was published by Republic Records after her departure from Big Machine Records. Lover is a pop album with a 1980s sound, combined with pop rock and electro-pop elements.
When Taylor released this album, some of the most popular songs were “Lover,” “The Man,” “Cruel Summer,” and “The Archer.” Taylor Swift wrote this album to focus on what she loves. In the song “Lover,” she writes, “Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand/ With every guitar string scar in my hand/ I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover.” She wrote this to reflect on her past songwriting about her romances and how they affected her life. Taylor won the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Album and the iHeartRadio Music Award for Pop Album of the Year. She has performed many of these songs on The Eras Tour.
Student Lily Woodall was asked to voice her opinion on Lover by Taylor Swift. Here are her thoughts:
“Lover makes me feel like I’m content and peacefully watching a sunset with my boyfriend or even just by myself. It is a beautiful, catchy song that just brings you to your happy place.”
Junior Katelyn Hodgins was also asked to share her opinion of the album Lover. She expressed her feelings by saying:
“Taylor Swift’s Lover album resonated with me by offering a sense of comfort to be vulnerable and emotional. There is something beautiful about the instrumentals in all of the songs. It’s perfect for a hopeless romantic like myself!”
Lover by Taylor Swift does not just bring love and happiness to listeners; it also brings a sense of growth and healing to many people. Taylor also used this album to show both fans and herself that she has come a long way from darker times like Reputation. Overall, Lover is a celebration of love in all forms and the ability to grow—not only for Taylor but also for many audiences around the world.
