On Thursday, September 26, West Lauderdale seniors visited the MCC campus to participate in the annual College and Career event. Along with other Lauderdale County School students, they were given the opportunity to visit various booths and gain information about different undergraduate programs and career paths.
Many representatives from universities and colleges were present at this event to speak with students about the prospective educational experiences provided at their campuses, including Mississippi State, Delta State, Southern Miss, and Ole Miss.
Admissions Recruiter Hannah Arnold shares, “I chose to become a recruiter for Southern Miss because I care about students. Whether or not they choose Southern Miss, I want them to choose higher education in general. This is my favorite part of my job, getting to work with these high school students at these fairs. It means the world to me that I can play a small part in helping a student decide on their future.”
When asked what she hopes students will learn from this event, she says, ”There are a lot of different opportunities for students outside of high school… If they put their minds out there, they can do it.”
Aside from the university tables, students also visited booths for a variety of MCC’s programs and organizations. Some of these included Media Production, Health Care Assisting, ESports, and Honors College.
James Smith, a WLHS senior, shares about his overall experience: “I plan to go to MCC and I loved learning more about my specific career that I [want to] major in at college… There were so many programs [at the fair] and a lot of scholarship opportunities.”
Madison Carroll, another senior, adds, “I liked the diversity of the colleges present. There was really a table for everyone so no one felt left out.”
The Class of 2025 gained a lot of good information at the College and Career Fair. This event allowed them to socialize with recruiters and offered a broad outlook into various educational paths. After this experience, students are encouraged to look onward into their futures.
