The West Lauderdale chapter of National Honor Society is expanding and improving its peer tutoring program for students through its very own website. With the new website, students will be able to view and request specific tutors, leave tutor reviews, and sign up for extra help preparing for the ACT exam.
The website, accessible through students’ grade level Canvas course, will enable students to have more input in the peer tutoring process. Students may now request which tutor they would like to work with. They can also leave feedback on their tutor, sharing whether they were helpful or not.
The website is organized by subjects, listing which tutors are best skilled to help in the areas that students are looking for. The creator of the website, Alexis Richardson, shares about the website’s organization: “It helps the user find what they need help with by providing different subjects with the staff that can offer services to them [in those areas], such as the essay revision section or math.”
Alli Walton, a junior, shares her thoughts on the website: “The new website is pretty good because last year I remember it being through a Google Doc, but this year it’s a whole website… and it just has a lot more options to go through.”
In addition, students now have the option to sign up for ACT preparation. If students are looking to bring up their ACT score in a particular section, they can now sign up to meet with a tutor to work through some practice problems and strategies.
The website is not just for high school students. There is also a section on the website for middle school students to sign up.
Students can now access the website by going to modules in their grade-level Canvas or simply by scanning one of the QR codes in A-Hall. A flier will also be pushed out to middle school parents through PeachJar, enabling parents to sign their children up.
