West Lauderdale’s HOSA committee will partner up with Vitalant to do its biannual blood drive on Friday, October 27, 2023. The blood drive will be on campus located in the Vitalant bloodmobile. This particular blood drive has been going on for more than 15 years.
Requirements to donate blood include weighing at least 110 lbs and being at least 16 years old, and you must also have a signed consent form before donating. Also, anyone giving blood must have a photo identification.
According to Mrs. Rhaly, anyone who is donating blood should know,” It is really important to eat something and drink a lot of fluids[before and after giving blood]. A lot of people think that it’s just the sugar that you need to replace, but it is also the fluid volume.”
The final goal for this drive is to collect at least 20 units of blood. All students who meet the requirements are encouraged to donate blood as there is a blood shortage across the nation. The blood donated will be used to save many lives as many areas are in great need.
