On Thursday October 24, The Boys and Girls Cross Country Knights were victorious at the 4A Super Regionals 5K in Clinton, MS. The top runners for this race starts with the champion, Hunter Walton, with a time of 17:12, Ryan Thompson placed in 4th with a time of 17:36, Aaron walls secured 5th place with a time of 17:43, Foster Windham in 6th place with a time of 18:04, and Brody Gressett in 8th place with a time of 18:21.
The champion for the girls was Alli Walton with a time of 22:10, Nora Peterson placed in 3rd place with a time of 23:09, Ruby Fairchild landed in 5th place with a time of 23:50, Abbie Cruse in 6th place with a time of 23:59, and finally Lydia Stewart in 8h place with a time of 23:31.
This course may have been very dusty on a scorching hot day, but these knights persevered. According to the girl’s champion, Alli Walton, she says “One thing that was challenging was that there was barely any shade. The sun made this race very challenging”. When asked about how she stayed strong during the race mentally and physically, she said “Something that helped me stay strong was my competitive mindset. I imagined someone was behind me the whole race. When my legs started to get tired, I remembered my goal, giving me the motivation to keep pushing.”
This race marked the end of the season for some of the runners, turning the course into a moment to push their hardest.
The Knights are now in the final stretch, going on into the state meet on November 2nd.
