On Wednesday, September 25th, West Lauderdale Middle and High School students gathered in the high school gym for the annual event “See You at the Pole.” “See You at the Pole” is a nationally recognized event where students gather to pray for one another, their school, their community, their nation, and the world at large. FCA, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, a student-led Christian organization, coordinated and ran this event.
The morning began with breakfast at Pine Forest Baptist Church and then continued in the West Lauderdale gym. FCA leaders D.D. Cooper, Wyatt Hatcher, and Misty Johnson spoke about prayer and how it has personally impacted their lives. Wyatt Hatcher shared:
“Speaking at See You at the Pole was nothing short of amazing. There is nothing I love more than spreading God’s Word whether it be through music or preaching.”
After the speakers finished their messages, students broke off into small groups to pray with one another. Several FCA leaders volunteered to lead these prayer groups. Caleb McAlister, one of the prayer leaders, shared that he felt inspired to get involved with “See You at the Pole” because he cares about his peers. He stated:
“I want to pray about their well-being and this school year, that God will move this school year and just help us throughout the year.”
D.D. Cooper shared that events like “See You at the Pole” are important because they keep religious activities such as prayer involved in student life. Wyatt Hatcher added that “See You at the Pole” allows students to make a positive impact on the world, saying:
“If you can’t tell, our nation and world [are] falling to pieces. We need prayer to put the world back together…Everything we do should reflect God’s goodness and mercy toward us. ‘See You at the Pole’ allows us to reflect on God’s goodness and allows us to ask Him for help. Only God can put this world back together.”
Besides their involvement with “See You at the Pole”, FCA hosts weekly meetings every Friday morning in the gym starting at 7:30am; all West Lauderdale High School students are welcome to attend. Although middle school students cannot attend FCA meetings, they can attend Knights For Christ meetings. These are held in the middle school library on Tuesday mornings for fifth and sixth graders and on Thursday mornings for seventh and eighth graders.
“See You at the Pole” allowed students to gather together to pray, allowing them to make a positive impact on the world and to gather with like-minded community to grow spiritually.
